The book captures the essence of the important and typical organic chemistry content studied at the 16-19 age range in courses such as A/AS Level (UK), International Baccalaureate (International) and Advanced Placement (USA), but also goes “beyond the exam” to provide a deeper insight into the real world application of the chemistry normally studied at this level. The book covers the structure, nomenclature, chemistry and applications of some of the typical functional group chemistry studied by the target audience. Factual “nuts and bolts” make up the bulk of the early part of each section, with case studies helping to illustrate the real-world application of the chemistry. Questions appearing within each section are pitched at the level of the AP, A/AS and IB examinations.

Author Information

Experienced chemistry educator Adrian Dingle is the creator of the award-winning chemistry web site: www.adriandingleschemistrypages.com. The focus of his career has been the preparation of students for external, standardized tests with an emphasis on A2/AS levels in the UK, AP and SAT subject tests in the USA and IB in both countries. An Englishman, he has taught in both the United States and England. He now lives in Atlanta, Georgia where he teaches at The Westminster Schools.
