Your book proposal serves as the foundation for evaluating its suitability for publication. It should summarise your book’s aims, target audience, key features and market competition. Note that submitted materials, including your CV, will be shared with reviewers unless otherwise specified.
Please complete the appropriate form(s) and email us, with supporting documentation, to proposal@anthempress.com.
Key information to be included in the book proposal:
Scope of the project
Author bio and credentials
Sample chapters
Target audience
Comparative titles
Word length and estimated submission
In short, the more you can tell us about the book at this early stage, the better the feedback and guidance we will be able to give you. Your acquisitions editor will be happy to answer any questions you have as you work on your proposal.
1. What happens to my proposal once I submit it?
Your completed proposal undergoes an internal review by the publishing team to determine if it is academically distinctive, is commercially viable and fits our publishing programme. If it does, the proposal and sample chapter(s) are sent out to multiple readers for anonymous and rigorous peer review.
2. How long does the proposal peer-review process take?
The peer-review process typically takes 3–4 weeks from the time the proposal is received.
3. Is the peer-review process double blind?
No, typically we disclose your credentials to the peer reviewers.
4. Will I be kept informed during the submission process?
Yes, your acquisitions editor will manage the process and provide you with periodic updates on the status of your submission.
5. What happens if the reviews are positive? Who makes the final decision on my proposal?
If the reviews are positive, the acquisitions editor will present your proposal to the publishing committee. This committee, which includes representatives from editorial, production, sales and marketing departments, decides if the book is a suitable fit for our publishing list and is commercially viable.
6. What happens if my proposal is accepted?
If the committee approves your proposal, the acquisitions editor will extend a formal publishing contract outlining the details of the agreement, such as delivery dates, manuscript requirements and remuneration.
7. How do I sign the contract?
You will be receiving an electronic copy of the contract for digital signature from our editorial team. Please note that we do not send hard copy versions of the contract for sign off.
