Fashion Auteurs is a groundbreaking book series devoted to designers who have left an indelible mark on fashion history. Critical, clear and concise, each title, comprising around 30K words, is written by authorities in the field, situating each designer within their time and against their peers, with a focus on the contributions that have made them memorable. Using the term ‘auteur’ to designate film directors with a distinctive and influential style, this is the first series to treat fashion designers and related fashion creators (e.g. photographers) as on par with artists who have decisively shaped imagery, taste, and what is seen to be current and desirable. These books will be of interest not only to fashionistas and ardent devotees of fashion magazines but also to students and teachers of art and design, artists and designers themselves, not to mention anyone seeking a deeper acquaintance with fashion and design culture.
